As I ponder upon the concept of divine speed, I can’t help but be aware of how acutely we love speed. I once watched a show in which an 80 something-year-old woman was asked what she thought the greatest invention of our time was. And her response was “the microwave”. Her reason? The microwave can cook so fast and its speed never ceases to amaze her.
So, we are used to speed and we generally despise anything that wouldn’t allow us to move at our desired speed.
We all want to get to the office, the mall, the grocery store, and even home in good time.
We All Want Speed
We’ve all wanted speed, at one time or the other, and there’s a kind of speed we can influence one way or the other.
Either by changing route, pressing hard on the car accelerator, or choosing to travel by a faster means of transportation.
But there are aspects of our life where we really wanted speed and we seem clueless as to what to do to get it.
A waiting (barren) mother requires speed to have her own child, a mature single sister doesn’t want to wait a day longer in loneliness. And a man that invested so much in business wants the business to take off flying, and the list is endless.
Man in his own wisdom tried so many ungodly means to gain speed in achieving his purposes and ended up right where he started. Because only God can give divine speed, with no negative consequence now or in the future.
God Granted Divine Speed to Elijah
In 1 Kings 18, we read the story of how God granted Elijah divine speed that he outran the king’s chariot.
44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”
45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 46 Then the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. 1 Kings 18:44 – 46 (NKJV)
In the Bible text above, the rain ceased for years and there was a famine in the land because the people sinned against God.
We've all wanted speed at one time or the other. A barren woman requires speed to have her own child, a sick person wants to be speedily healed, a business person wants the business to take off flying. #divinespeed #godspeed… Share on XElijah prayed and God sent the clouds as evidence that He had heard and was about to send rain upon the earth. Having received the confirmation, Elijah sent his messenger to inform King Ahab to hastily prepare his chariot and run home. Or else he will be drenched in the rain.

As soon as Ahab heard this, he made haste. Now, a king’s chariot could have up to ten horses driving it, and with the best charioteer in the kingdom. And that would amount to a lot of speed, but something no one could explain happened. Elijah outran the king’s chariots and horses.
King Ahab started off earlier, Elijah without a single horse to ride girded up his loins and got to the entrance of Jezreel, running with his two old and weak legs, ahead of the king being driven by chariot, all because the hand of the Lord was upon him.

The Secret of Divine Speed is the Hand of God
The secret of divine speed is the hand of God upon a person’s life. If you are in a situation whereby you believe you are far behind, what you need, is not the devil’s shortcut. You need the hand of God to give you divine speed.
Not only will God take you up in amazing flight, but He will also grant you divine speed. And He will restore the years that you thought were wasted and far gone.
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. Joel 2:25
Or, how else can we explain that in just 24 hours a prisoner became the prime minister in a foreign nation (Egypt)?

I strongly beseech you, never to seek progress, promotion, fulfillment, (speed) elsewhere, other than from the one whose hand is everywhere every time. And His hand could be upon you any moment from now only if you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, and seek His help in prayers.
Prayer: Father, let your hand be upon me to take me to heights greater than me, restore back unto me days that the locust has eaten, in Jesus mighty name.

Thank you for the reminder to slow down and stop worrying about speed. God’s time is always best.
Yes, God’s time is the best, but he is our heavenly father and he cares about us. So if we ask for him to grant us grace for divine speed, he will definitely do it.
Hi Betty, I ran across your site here by doing research. I was trying to find out how old Elijah was when he outran the chariot?

I am currently at this point. I have an exam to write but way far behind. I’m at a crossroad, having headache and heart palpitations because of the exam. Already feeling like I have failed the exam which is next month as I am yet to cover a lot of grounds in my texts. God help me!!!
Hi Ella,
I have felt that way before, and do you know how I was able to move past it?
It wasn’t easy but I told myself that if I fail, I would have learned firsthand the type of questions to expect and the areas I need more practice in.
And so, I ditched my fears and sat for the exam and passed gallantly.
I am so backwards because of a lot of mistakes and disobedience to the father, I pray for his mercy, restoration and speed in Jesus mighty name
