How to Start a New Beginning With God

At the start of a new year, most people make goals or have new year resolutions including seeking a new beginning with God.

The truth is you don’t have to wait till the beginning of a new year to initiate changes or start a new beginning with God. You can start now just as you are.

As I type, the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-24 comes to mind.

He asked his father to essentially give him his own portion of the father’s estate. Usually, this is supposed to happen after his father’s demise, but he couldn’t wait. His father obliged him and he left home for another country where he squandered his wealth on riotous living. He didn’t save for the rainy day or invest or anything of such and unfortunately famine hit that country.

When famine hit, he had no choice but to look for work to survive, yet his take home could not take him home. He was in want of good food, shelter, clothing, family, love, affection, attention, name it.

Luckily for him, he came to himself and acknowledged that even his father’s hired servants had enough to spare. They were not in want like he was. And he made the decision to go back to His father and ask for a new beginning. A new beginning not as a son for he had lost his chance, but as one of his father’s hired servants. But he got the shock of his life when his father wholeheartedly received him and killed the fatted calf in celebration of his return. He not only got a new beginning, but he also got a great new beginning as he was restored to sonship.

Peradventure, you too have strayed from the Father’s love and you know it because things are no longer looking up as they should. Friends you trusted in have let you down, wealth has vanished, and you have moved from grace to grass. Perhaps your health is failing, or the children have left home without the intention of returning.

You can start a new beginning with God today. For when you are down to nothing, then God is up to something.

Maybe you have never known the Father’s love or experienced a real relationship with Him. It is possible to attend church, be a conscientious worker, and still not know Him. It is never too late to have a new beginning with God.

What Does the Phrase a New Beginning With God Mean?

A new beginning with God could mean the start of a new meaningful relationship with God or a do-over of the existing relationship. However you look at it, it’s an opportunity for a fresh start.

If you have hitherto lived your life oblivious of God, now could be the time to change the narrative. Or if you have fallen short of what you know to be His standard for your life, today you have an opportunity to start a new beginning with Him.

What Does the Bible Say About New Beginning With God?

God is a God of new beginnings, He made a way for us to be reconciled to Him by giving His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

He gave me a new beginning at a time when I thought all hope was lost. I was a wretched sinner on the way to hell, but God had mercy on me and gave me a brand new beginning. God wiped my slate clean of all my sins and He doesn’t remember them any more.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

He put them far away from Him as far as the east is from the west.

12 … as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:12 https://biblehub.com/psalms/103-12.htm

On my part, I had to accept His forgiveness and learn to adjust my lifestyle to the new beginning. I began reading my bible, praying, regularly attending church services, and building up my faith.

Benefits of Having a New Beginning With God

There are many benefits associated with having a new beginning with God, I can’t possibly mention them all in a post such as this. But I encourage you to leave a comment on some benefits you have enjoyed since starting your relationship with God.

7 Bible Based Benefits of Having a New Beginning With God

  1. Peace of mind: When you start a new beginning with God you will have peace that passes understanding.
  2. Translation from death to life: When you have a new beginning with God, you are translated from death to life and become a member of His kingdom.

24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. John 5:24 (ESV)

  1. The right to sonship: You receive the power to become the son of God.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, John 1:12 (ESV)

  1. Become a member of the winning team: You become a member of the winning team because God has highly exalted Jesus Christ and demons tremble at the mention of His name.

9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (ESV)

  1. Receive an open check to ask anything: Everything you ask the Father in the name of Jesus will be done in as much as it is in line with His will.

  1. Have a guilt-free conscience: You get to live with a guilt-free conscience because your sins are forgiven.
