The importance of being discreet

Today, we will look at the importance of being discreet using Saul as a case study. I trust that the holy spirit will help us to understand why we need to be discreet especially in this era of social media.

The advent of social media has really changed a lot of things, we no longer have the same values as our forefathers. Gone are the days when people hoarded personal information about themselves. In those days, what goes on in families, remained between families. These days, the boundary has thinned considerably, and people are no longer careful about divulging personal details online.

Despite the changing era, our God does not change. And the same way He demanded discreetness of Saul, He demands it of us today.

Read 1Samuel 10:1-24

God will often allow certain things to happen so that you can seek Him.

Saul in the process of looking for his father’s missing donkeys had gone to see Samuel the prophet for direction on how to locate the animals.

But God had another plan for Saul. The real reason the donkeys were missing was because God needed to speak with Saul.

Be discreet about your affairs

Take note that Samuel was discreet in delivering God’s message of Saul’s coronation. He made Saul dismiss his servants before giving him God’s message. Similarly, Saul was wise enough to know that he must keep the matter secret until the appointed time.

When his uncle asked him what the prophet had said, he only mentioned the part about the lost but found asses. He deliberately omitted mentioning that Samuel had anointed and declared him king.

Nobody knew of that incidence until the time God chose to make it known publicly.

We must emulate Saul in our daily lives.

Be discreet about your affairs and God’s promises to you and your household. Because there will always be haters.

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace. (1 Samuel 10:27 KJV)

There were antagonists of Saul’s kingship. They rejected him and despised him.

Which means that if they had known God’s plan ahead of time, they might have taken more aggressive steps to disrupt it.

Therefore, it’s good to be discreet about your affairs and where God is taking you to. Don’t tell your dreams and visions ahead of time and don’t tell it to enemies in disguise.

Prayer points

  1. Father Lord, grant me a fresh encounter with you and resolve my problems in the name of Jesus Christ. When Saul had a fresh encounter with God, his problem was resolved.
  2. Father anoint me afresh, I don’t want to fight today’s battles with yesterday’s anointing.
  3. Father, grant me discernment like the sons Issachar who knew what to do per time in the name of Jesus. Help me to know the right thing to do per time and grant me grace to do it.
  4. Lord help me to be discreet concerning your promises and dealings in my life. May I not expose myself to the wicked in Jesus name.
  5. All those who are sitting in the seat of the scornful in my life, Father surprise them.
  6. Ask of anything you want from God.
