Preparing for the marriage supper of the Lamb is paramount because the marriage will take place unannounced.
There are several things worth noting in the parable of the wedding feast.
1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, 3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ 5 But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ 10 And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. 12 And he said to him, Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:1-14 ESV)
The Invited Guests were Complacent
Firstly, the first set of invitees were complacent, they didn’t care to attend a wedding that was duly prepared by the king. It didn’t matter to them, the level of effort that had gone into the preparation for the Prince’s wedding.
They just knew that they were not interested. And when the king’s servant tried to persuade them, they got rid of the servants.
The same thing is happening in some countries today.
Read my review on the book titled hearts of fire . It’s about 8 women persecuted for their faith.
The King's Reaction to Complacency of Invited Guests
Note the king’s reaction to their action. The king was angry, sent his troops, destroyed the murderers, and burnt their city.
Therefore, He (God) will reward every evil act of men.
Now, when the king saw that the first set of invited guests were not worthy, he extended the invitation to all. The good, the bad, and the ugly were all invited.
They were invited in hopes that they will recognize and appreciate the rare privilege to dine with the King.
Some of them recognized that privilege and made themselves ready, while some didn’t.
Again, we see the king’s reaction to those who were not ready. The king ordered they be casted out of the wedding into outer darkness.
Why was The King Angry?
The question then is, why did the King cast them out, since they didn’t ask to be invited in the first place?
It’s true, they didn’t ask to be invited, but the moment they accepted the invitation, they had a responsibility to dress accordingly and be prepared.
Similarly, our responsibility as the bride of Christ is to make ourselves ready for the feast, the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. Rev 19:7-8 (ESV)
We see from the above scripture that the bride made herself ready.
It is expected that we also will make ourselves ready for the upcoming marriage of the Lamb.
All those who are not ready will be casted out.
So, readiness is key to making heaven.
What stage are you in your preparation?
Nobody knows the day of death, and some don’t even like to hear about death.
But death is inevitable, we will all die one day, for some it will be sooner than later.
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, (Hebrews 9:27 ESV).
The day of death is the day of judgement, because then there will be no more opportunity to prepare.
That’s why we must make every effort to be prepared while we’re still alive.
Can you mention some practical ways to prepare for the biggest and glamorous marriage of all time?
