15 Powerful Bible Verses for Spiritual Warfare

Here are 15 powerful bible verses for spiritual warfare bible, I used these verses when facing intense oppression from the powers of darkness. And I know they will be useful for someone going through a similar situation and who needs to engage in spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is real and the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

Defensive and Offensive Weapons of Spiritual Warfare

In a previous post on the armor of God, we reviewed the weapons available for spiritual warfare. Specifically, we saw that the whole armor of God consisted of 5 defensive and one offensive weapon. As evidenced in the scriptures below.

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which, you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints (Ephesians 6:13 – 18 NKJV)

The Offensive Weapon of Spiritual Warfare is the Sword of the Spirit

The only offensive weapon mentioned in the above bible verse is “the sword of the spirit”. Otherwise known as the word of God, or scriptures. And it is an effective weapon for pulling down strongholds and casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

How to Use Bible Verses for Spiritual Warfare

I touched on how to use the sword of the spirit (God’s word) in the previous post on the armor of God and it is summarized below for your convenience.

Quote Relevant Bible Verses

You would use it by quoting relevant bible verses concerning your specific situations when praying.

Remind God of Stories of People Who Had Victory in the Bible

Similarly, you can tap into biblical testimonies of those who went through similar situations and conquered. This is done by reminding God of their story and calling upon Him to do same for you.

Tap Into the Godly Testimonies of Other Children of God

Finally, you can tap into the Godly testimonies of those around you and pray with such.

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:11 NKJV)

From the above scripture, you see that it’s possible to overcome by the word of testimony. That is why praying with bible verses is vital when contending with the powers of darkness.

Advantages of Using Scriptures when Engaging in Spiritual Warfare

Remember the scripture is God’s word, and it’s the offensive weapon for dealing with evil forces. Praying with scriptures will do several things for you.

It Will Boost Your Confidence in God

It will give you reassurance and confidence that God will do what He said He will do. Quoting God’s word will strengthen your faith. Because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17 ESV)

It Will Make the Devil Tremble

Another thing waging spiritual warfare using scriptures will do is to make the devil tremble. And become subject to you in the name of Jesus. Remember, that was how our Lord Jesus Christ fought and won the battle. He quoted scriptures. The times He was tempted, He kept saying “it is written”.

God Will Fight for You

Finally, quoting scriptures in spiritual warfare will make God fight for you. Because God said we should put Him in remembrance of His word, declare that we may be justified.

26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. (Isaiah 43:26 KJV)

There is power in God’s word, because all scriptures are inspired by God.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2Timothy 3:16 – 17 NKJV)

Furthermore, Jesus is the living word of God and all power in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth bow to Him. Therefore, fighting a good warfare with scriptures is the wisest thing to do.
